Step by step
Self-bots, spam scripts and raid tools post to every channel they can reach. A honeypot is a text channel every account can see and write to, whose topic and pinned message say do not post here. The first message in it is the tell: it is deleted, the sender is actioned immediately (default ban) and staff get an alert. Staff with Manage Messages, the server owner, whitelisted members and exempt roles can never trigger it, so a moderator explaining the channel is safe.

Every trigger is logged as honeypot.triggered with the message text, and the alert also goes to outgoing webhooks.

- Put the channel where bots will find it but humans will not chat: bottom of the list, clear topic. Do not name it #general-2.
- Kick or timeout are gentler defaults on servers with many new members who might click the wrong channel; the pinned warning helps.
- A member who posts by accident can be unbanned like any other ban; the case shows the exact message.
If it does not work
- A bot posted and nothing happened. The bot is whitelisted for automod, or Bots and webhooks too is off, or the bot role is above mine. !security audit shows role position.
